Hi,
I’m Amy — a mum, a data storyteller, and now a Master’s student in Soil Science at Cranfield University. A year ago I’d never have put those three things in the same sentence. But that’s rather the point.
I’ve spent my career in advertising doing one thing above all else: turning something complicated into a story people actually understand. It turns out that’s exactly the skill the soil & climate conversations are missing.
Becoming a mum changed the stakes for me. It’s hard to put into words, but the world we’re handing over stops feeling so abstract when my vibrant little girl stands infront of me. I want the next generation to inherit something better than a long list of problems.
And here’s what I can’t stop noticing. We talk about carbon emissions, climate change, erosion, drought, flooding, food security, human health, resilient infrastructure, education — each in its own room, with its own experts, in its own language. Brilliant people, all working in isolation. But whenever I follow one of those threads back, it keeps leading to the same place: Healthy soils.
Soils Are the Solution is my attempt to join it up.
I’m at the very beginning of this journey and I don’t have the answers. What I do have is a hunger to learn and a genuine belief that the answers already exist. We simple need to connect the dots and it’s why this project rests on three words:
- Listen — to farmers, scientists, and the people already living with a changing climate and leading change.
- Learn — through my Master’s, and from the fascinating people I’m lucky enough to meet along the way.
- Connect — because I’ve come to believe this is my life’s work: bringing communities and knowledge together, so the solutions we’re each holding a piece of can finally meet.
My mission is simple, even if the work isn’t. I want to translate what I learn into something all of us can genuinely understand and act on.
To show that beneath almost every challenge we face sits the same quiet, extraordinary answer.
Healthy Soils.
